BECOMING PHOENIX

To write again is a struggle
A struggle to give voice to months
Entombed in passivity
Lacerated by loneliness
Bored to tears by the endless drumming rhythm
Of isolation

Awakened again I hear angels inside
Quickening the blood
Recharging adrenaline
Reemerging to find friends eager to embrace
A revived personality

Crippled by chemistry I was blinded
To the brutal effect of countless betrayals
On almost every front
Friendships that I had thought lifelong
Shattered in petty rounds of recrimination

You are a phoenix she said
And the words rang true
Rising from ashes and rubble
To fly again
This time safely
To reconquer the heavens
And reclaim a humble place among the stars
